This segment, when developed, will discuss the reciprocal relationship between PVMC and the local community and how this relationship benefits both.
Schools
In the spring of 2008, the Pecos Valley Medical Center (PVMC) and the Pecos Independent School District entered into a partnership in order to provide a full-time Registered Nurse (RN) for the middle and high schools. Stephen Foster, RN, is the nurse filling this position, partly because of his experience working with children and adolescent health issues and partly because he begged his administrator to let him do it!
Stephen has a strong interest in promoting healthy behaviors in teenagers. His years of behavioral health counseling have instilled in him the empathy and patience it takes to work effectively with this population. The nursing office for the middle and high schools is located on the school campus, and students are seen as needed throughout the school day, Monday through Friday. Additional support is available to the nurse, as needed, by the medical providers at PVMC.
