USDA Awards PVMC $3 Million Loan

to Begin New Facility

Apparently size does matter. Have you been in the clinic lately and couldn't find a seat? You notice that doctors and nurses are busy with patients, all dental chairs and the waiting rooms are filled, and the front desk staff is answering phones, taking payments, and scheduling new appoint-ments? Clearly, we need more space. The recent remodel of the current building and moving the pharmacy to accommodate the X-Ray equipment helped, but both of those services need more space. Do you want to hear more? Or maybe you can't find a parking space some days or if you do, you can't get your car out!

Enough already! Our Board and staff have known for several years that more space is needed. In 2009, the Board embarked on a six-month interview process that netted the architectural firm of Wright & Hammer to assist in the design and cost projections for the proposed construc-tion. Initial program planning determined that at least 15,000 square feet is needed to meet projected needs over the next several years. Current clinic space is just under 7,000 square feet, including the modular. Cost projections, done in 2009 when fund raising began, were at $250/sq foot or just over $6 million!

The award of the $3 million loan is fabulous news for the PVMC and our community! Although documentation will take a few months to complete, Alex Perea and Shelley Oram, co-chairs of the Board's facility committee, hope to start meeting with the architects and the community before the end of this year. They will be looking for input on the new building design and what it should include.

The USDA funding award is a loan which will require re-payment over 40 years. The Board is planning to raise the remaining $3 million through grants and donations. Over the years, donations to the PVMC have served to provide the community with vital services such as support for the Pecos Ambulance, the X-ray machine, and so much more.  With YOUR support, Pecos Valley Medical Center will continue to offer the highest-quality care with the latest in technology, close to home. Every gift helps the PVMC maintain the high-level of care so important to our community.
