Pecos Valley Medical Center, Inc. (PVMC) is a not-for-profit community health center serving western San Miguel and eastern Santa Fe County residents and visitors. Located on Highway 50 less than a mile west of the intersection of Hwy 50 and Hwy 63 (“the 4 way stop”) in Pecos Village, the Center has been providing medical services for the communities along the head waters of the beautiful Pecos River since the mid-1970’s. Today those services have expanded to include:
Medical care (4 providers):
- Traditional/interventional treatment: mild to moderate medical problems of recent onset such as coughs, colds, and flu, as well as
routine health care maintenance. X-ray and obstetric (OB) services are now available as of the beginning of 2010.
- Chronic conditions treatment: working with patients diagnosed with one or more chronic conditions (such as diabetes, asthma, and heart disease
that require regular evaluation and management by the provider and the patient. This care includes care management for and with each patient, assistance in obtaining
medically necessary medications, testing, and referrals to specialists as necessary, as well as obtaining financial assistance and transportation to ensure maximum
health outcomes.
- Emergency care: is protocol-directed for medical emergencies requiring immediate assessment, triage, and processing according to the level of care indicated. Patients generally present with chest pain, respiratory difficulty, altered consciousness or trauma to tissue. The clinic ER is equipped with emergency life support equipment, and the medical staff is ACLS certified.
Dental care (1.5 Dentist): preventive, emergency and primary dental care have been offered at the Clinic since early 2001. These services include oral hygiene and more complex treatments including fillings, crowns, extractions, and dentures. The dental team works with Head Start and Pecos School programs to screen and educate young people about the importance of oral health and coordinates care with the medical team for patients with chronic conditions affecting oral health. Ambulance Services (24/7 coverage): emergency response and transport as needed 24/7 by a trained staff of EMT Basics, Intermediates and Paramedics respond to individual calls and accidents within a 1,000 square mile area from State Road 3 to Canoncito del Apache along I-25. The ambulance team also covers special events such as rodeos and film shoots and works with the school system on emergency preparedness. (Read more...)
