Suboxone Treatment Program
Addiction to Opiates (narcotics, heroin and other prescribed and illicit substances) is a major problem among many residents of Northern New Mexico. In order to effectively address this problem, two physician members of the Medical team at the Pecos Valley Medical Center have received the advanced training and certification offered by the DEA for the administration of a substitute drug known as Suboxone.
Suboxone (Buprenorphine) is administered as a substitute for opiates without the side effects of opiates. It is used to replace opiates for those individuals who have become addicted and for whom that addiction is interfering with mental and physical health and wellbeing.
The transition from Opiates to Suboxone is usually a very easy one and can be done as an out-patient procedure. The transition is monitored by a trained medical team including the physician, a specially trained nurse, and behavioral health personnel.
